First Vancouver location of UK chai shop part of brand's huge Canadian expansion
Chaiiwala of London reveals plans to expand its Canadian footprint with two new locations in Metro Vancouver, including a site at the Landmark on Robson opening in 2026 and another at King George Hub in Surrey set to open in January. The franchise currently operates seven shops in the Lower Mainland, with offerings that blend East Indian, East African, and British culinary traditions. Co-founders Shiraj Kothiwala and Ajmal Gundhra aim to create a cultural experience where people can enjoy authentic chai and street food. Since entering the Canadian market in 2021, Chaiiwala has opened over 20 locations nationwide and has ambitious plans to reach 100 by 2030. The brand's signature drinks, like Karak Chaii and Pink Chaii, alongside Indian street food-inspired meals, have gained popularity.
The growing franchise reflects a broader trend of increasing demand for diverse culinary experiences in Canada. Kothiwala expresses a commitment to making Chaiiwala a welcoming space for community connection. The expansion highlights the brand's success in adapting to Canadian tastes and preferences.
