Speeding up housing delivery in Broadway and Cambie Corridors

Vancouver, BCLocal News

Vancouver City Council approved zoning changes to accelerate affordable housing development in the Broadway and Cambie Corridors. Most new projects will need to include social housing or below-market rental units, with varying requirements based on their location. High-rise developments must secure rental status for entire buildings, reserving 20% for below-market units. The initiative aims to streamline the approval process, cutting approximately 12 months from the timeline for eligible projects. Mayor Ken Sim stated these changes will expedite housing delivery for residents.

The updated zoning regulations also standardize building heights and design requirements to enhance development efficiency. This initiative aligns with the Vancouver Plan and aims to maximize transit investments and livability for the community. The City’s Tenant Relocation and Protection Policy will ensure that existing tenants can return at similar rents post-redevelopment.
