Steubenville will host a meaningful Juneteenth celebration on June 19, 2025, highlighting the historical significance of the day when enslaved African Americans were informed of their freedom. Organizers, including Sheila Hendricks, emphasize the need for community education about Juneteenth, particularly for younger generations. The celebration will kick off with a parade featuring local leaders, including Fourth Ward Councilman Royal Mayo, as grand marshals. Special activities include spoken word presentations and the distribution of age-appropriate books to children, reinforcing the event's educational focus. Participants will receive items with red to symbolize the bloodshed of ancestors, echoing the day’s somber history.

Community events will also include a basketball tournament and karaoke night, encouraging local involvement.
