Morrisey continues to support healthy eating with mobile kitchen debut
Governor Patrick Morrisey introduced a mobile teaching kitchen in West Virginia to advance healthy eating among low-income families. The kitchen debuted at the Governor’s Mansion and will travel to underserved regions, offering nutrition education and cooking demonstrations. This initiative, supported by $1 million in state funding, is part of Morrisey's larger mission to combat chronic health issues linked to poor dietary choices. West Virginia Health Right CEO Angie Settle highlighted the concept of food as medicine, asserting that healthy eating can be affordable and delicious. The mobile kitchen is the third unit launched by the nonprofit, which also runs mobile dental and medical clinics.
Morrisey’s health initiative includes proposed changes to the SNAP program, seeking to limit soda purchases using benefits. He aims to tackle the root causes of poor health by addressing the state's broken food system. His "Four Pillars of a Healthy West Virginia" strategy also includes banning harmful food additives and increasing access to healthy food options.
