Richmond announces Memorial Day plans

The Richmond Community Historical Society will host its Memorial Day parade at 11 a. m. on Monday, themed “50 Years of History in Our Community. ” This year marks the organization’s 50th anniversary since its chartering on January 20, 1975. The parade will commence at the former Richmond Elementary School and end at Richmond Union Cemetery, where a brief ceremony will honor veterans.

Organizations interested in participating can contact parade coordinator Wendy Byers, but parking will be limited due to safety concerns. A breakfast organized by Boy Scout Troop 20 will precede the parade, featuring donation-based meals to benefit troop projects. Army veteran David J. DiCicco Jr. , who served in Afghanistan, will deliver the keynote address at the cemetery service.

The Festival in the Woods Committee will serve as the parade grand marshals, highlighting their community contributions through various events. This celebration fosters community spirit and honors the sacrifices of veterans, connecting past and present generations.

Weirton man sentenced in sexual abuse case

Completion of exterior lighting at Stanton and John Gregg Elementary schools is expected by the end of October.
