Oak Glen triumphed over Wheeling Central 5-4 to win the Class AA, Region 1, Section 1 championship. After suffering a run-rule loss to the same team, the Golden Bears demonstrated their resilience, a trait developed throughout a challenging regular season. Coach Sherrie Garner emphasized that Oak Glen's 31-game slate, which included numerous tough matchups, prepared them for this crucial moment. The game began positively for the Bears, with Riley Bruce hitting a leadoff homer and Mattie Carney contributing both offensively and defensively. Despite building a 5-0 lead, Oak Glen faced a late-game scare as Wheeling Central rallied to pull within one run in the seventh inning.

The Knights' effort was commendable, as they fought back after trailing early, but the Golden Bears held firm to secure the win. Carney's complete game featured eight strikeouts, highlighting her crucial role in the championship match.
