Coach Sherrie Garner emphasized that Oak Glen's 31-game slate, which included numerous tough matchups, prepared them for this crucial moment. Despite building a 5-0 lead, Oak Glen faced a late-game scare as Wheeling Central rallied to pull within one run in the seventh inning.

Carney's complete game featured eight strikeouts, highlighting her crucial role in the championship match.
