Beech Bottom still contending with water issues

Toronto, OHLocal News

Water shortages persist in Beech Bottom following a severe storm on April 29 that damaged the village's water treatment system. Mayor Becky Uhlly reported that the village awaits an independent contractor to replace the failed pumps, which did not restart after power was restored. Customers north of 49 Hill Road are receiving water through a hose from the Hammond Public Service District, which has resulted in significantly lower water pressure. Uhlly ordered 4,000 gallons of bottled water for distribution, providing two cases to each affected household, and recognized state Del. Jimmy Willis for his support during the crisis.

The storm also disrupted the wastewater treatment system, causing raw sewage to back up into basements. Uhlly highlighted the extensive damage to the village, including downed trees and blown-off siding from homes. The Brooke County Emergency Management Agency is assessing property damage to facilitate a potential disaster declaration. Uhlly urged residents to conserve water and remain patient as the village works to resolve these issues.
