Form Energy powering up to ship first batteries
Form Energy is set to ship its first four iron air batteries to Minnesota this summer, supporting the electric grid operated by Great River Energy. During the WVMEG summit, Chief Operating Officer Ted Wiley detailed the ongoing construction at the Weirton facility, which now employs about 450 individuals. The company also has operations in California and Massachusetts, totaling an additional 450 employees. Wiley confirmed the shipment plans include a ceremonial send-off for the first batteries, with hopes that Governor Patrick Morrisey will participate. The batteries will be packaged in around 40 containers, expected to be dispatched in July.
In addition to Minnesota, Form Energy has secured orders from utility companies across several states, including Virginia and California. Wiley noted that while initial orders are modest, larger requests are anticipated as utilities seek effective grid solutions. He advocates for strengthening the nation's energy infrastructure to embrace diverse energy technologies.
