Elections are set for today

Toronto, OHLocal News

Steubenville voters will select a Republican mayoral nominee today, with Kimberly Hahn and Ralph Petrella competing for the position. In Toronto, residents will weigh in on a $3. 5 million continuing levy for fire safety apparatus, which would fund a new fire engine and related gear. Voters will also consider a local option that could allow Tucker’s Tavern to sell alcohol on Sundays. Additionally, a statewide constitutional amendment will be on the ballot, allowing state officials to issue $250 million in bonds annually for the next decade, aimed at funding local infrastructure projects.

Jefferson County Board of Elections member Frankie DiCarlantonio reported a lack of significant interest in the primary, though he noted that Toronto's fire levy has sparked some enthusiasm. Former Steubenville councilman Willie Paul has filed as an Independent candidate for mayor, meaning the Republican nominee will face competition in November. Voters are reminded they can drop off absentee ballots at the elections office until 7:30 p. m. today.
