Toronto, OHLocal News

At a recent council meeting, Follansbee Mayor David Velegol Jr. announced a $2 million sewer project that will install a large concrete channel under Route 2 to manage stormwater and prevent flooding. Crews from Alex Paris Contracting will work Monday through Thursday from 8 a. m. to 5 p.

m. , with flaggers maintaining traffic flow, although delays are likely. The project is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions. The channel will be five feet wide and 15 feet deep, constructed in three sections off-site before being lowered into place by a crane. Additionally, city officials are considering a code enforcement officer position to address health hazards from overgrown lawns, pending the adoption of the International Property Maintenance Code.

Until a code officer is appointed, police will continue to enforce existing city ordinances. Community cleanups are planned for June 1 and June 8, encouraging local residents to participate in neighborhood improvement efforts. This proactive approach to infrastructure and community engagement reflects a commitment to enhancing Follansbee's resilience against flooding.
