Roads, property cleanup before Brooke Commission
The Brooke County Commission convened on Tuesday to tackle pressing local matters, including road maintenance and property cleanup. State Del. Jimmy Willis confirmed that patching on state Route 27 would be completed the same day, following a motorcycle accident that occurred nearby. David Holden, the county’s compliance officer, reported the successful cleanup of a vacant property on McCord Hill Road, where crews removed 15 truckloads of debris at a cost of $4,950. The property had been neglected and was filled with various items, including a large above-ground swimming pool and appliances.
The commission aims to auction the property to recoup cleanup expenses, with four individuals already showing interest. In addition, the commission awarded a contract for asphalt paving of two parking lots for the county's judicial center, totaling $431,549. Local officials emphasized the importance of addressing road conditions, as residents have voiced concerns about local infrastructure. The commission's next meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a. m.
on Tuesday at the courthouse.
