Blood drive held at Steubenville High School
Steubenville High School conducted a blood drive on November 6, organized by the NIKE Club and the American Red Cross, which collected 19 viable units from 29 donors. Adviser Katrina Morrow noted that the collected blood could save up to 42 lives, despite the lower turnout compared to last fall's drive. The NIKE Club has hosted blood drives for 11 years, with plans to hold three collections annually. Morrow highlighted the critical need for blood donations, especially from African-American donors, to aid individuals with sickle-cell anemia. Joseph Rozman, a regular donor who has given 68 units, shared his motivation to donate, inspired by a relative's battle with cancer.
First-time donor Alexis Featherman expressed her eagerness to contribute, emphasizing the importance of blood for those in need. The blood collected will be sent to hospitals in the Allegheny Valley region for patients undergoing surgeries and treatments. Donors also received incentives, including a $10 e-gift card and potential scholarships for graduating seniors.
