High school art exhibition begins today

The sixth-annual High School Student Art Exhibition opens today at the Summit Art Gallery in Weirton, showcasing creative works from students at Brooke, Madonna, and Oak Glen high schools. With the theme "Lost and Found," the exhibit runs until December 18 and will be open for public viewing during business hours. The opening reception is scheduled from 5 p. m. to 7 p.

m. today, where attendees can enjoy light refreshments. Five students from each school will receive award ribbons, with first place being recognized, thanks to sponsorship from Seven Ranges Entertainment. Jurors for the awards will include teachers and a member of the arts council, who will ensure impartiality during the judging process. Many artworks will be available for purchase, allowing the community to support young artists.

The Top of West Virginia Arts Council aims to promote visual arts in the region, with exhibitions occurring every two months at the gallery. This initiative fosters a greater appreciation for the artistic talents of youth in Brooke and Hancock counties.
