Toronto Council updated on amphitheater plans

Toronto, OHLocal News

Toronto Council updated plans for an amphitheater at the site of the former Cooper Hardware building, which was demolished in August. Mayor John Parker emphasized its strategic location near the Soldiers and Sailors World War I monument and Gazebo Commons, known for summer concerts. Councilman Mike Burkey mentioned a recent meeting with an architect to explore design options, considering accessibility and drainage issues. The project has received funding, including $38,000 from the Charles and Thelma Pugliese Foundation and $13,000 from the county's park and recreation fund. Parker indicated that the area will likely be leveled while allowing for a slight slope for seating.

Tentative plans include positioning the audience to face a raised stage at the northwest corner. In addition, the council authorized a loan for the replacement of a lift station in the wastewater treatment system to separate combined sewer lines. This project responds to federal EPA orders for wastewater treatment providers to prevent raw sewage from entering local waterways.
