Saline Township EMS levy fails
A clear majority of Saline Township voters rejected a proposed five-year 6-mill levy for emergency medical services, with 75. 76% voting against it. Township Trustee Ryan Holland, a vocal supporter of the levy, expressed disappointment and noted misinformation swayed public opinion. The levy aimed to generate $424,008 annually, replacing a previous 2. 5-mill levy that failed to meet the township's EMS funding needs.
Holland lost his trustee seat to Danny Householder and Charles Crawford in the recent election, where Householder cast the sole dissenting vote on a critical agreement with the TEMS Joint Ambulance District. The township's financial difficulties, worsened by the closure of the W. H. Sammis Plant, necessitated the levy to support local EMS operations. With the levy rejected, the current 2.
5-mill levy will remain in effect through next year. Holland emphasized the importance of the TEMS agreement, despite its potential impact on his electoral outcome. Township officials must now decide on future contracts with TEMS after the current agreement concludes in December 2026.
