Wellsburg city manager search under way
Wellsburg Council is preparing to interview eight local applicants for the city manager role on November 10 and 13, as current City Manager Steve Maguschak plans to retire after January 24. Mayor Dan Dudley expressed the goal of having a successor appointed by late November or early December to facilitate a transition period. While the council discussed whether the new manager should live in the city, this requirement was not included in the job advertisement. Council members also reviewed the structure of their meeting schedule, considering the benefits of holding two voting meetings per month to improve efficiency. Maguschak highlighted the need to balance hiring costs against the qualifications of candidates, as the salary will be determined accordingly.
In another matter, the council decided to reschedule the city's trick-or-treat hours to Saturday evening due to anticipated bad weather. This change was prompted by complaints from residents about the initial timing set months earlier. The council also revisited the possibility of aligning its elections with the state's to save on costs, although this would shorten some officials' terms.
