Meet the candidates night planned for Thursday

The Ohio Valley Business and Professional Women’s Club will host a Meet the Candidates Night on Nov. 4 from 5 p. m. to 8 p. m.

at Steubenville High School, inviting local candidates to present their platforms. This year’s format allows candidates to deliver three-minute introductions without a panel discussion or back-and-forth questioning. Amelia Taggart, a co-organizer, stated that candidates from across Jefferson County, including those vying for township, school board, village, city council, and mayoral positions, are expected to participate. The event will also feature representatives from various organizations discussing ballot issues, such as proposed changes to the Steubenville City Charter. Attendees can access the venue via the school’s Logan Street entrance.

Taggart emphasized the importance of this event for residents to understand the candidates and issues before voting. The BPW aims to empower women through advocacy, education, and information dissemination. The event serves as a crucial opportunity for community engagement ahead of the general election.

The initiative, funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant, aims to enhance safety through improved illumination and security systems. Completion of exterior lighting at Stanton and John Gregg Elementary schools is expected by the end of October.
