Bid received for Wellsburg Middle School
Brooke County school officials received a $225,000 bid for the former Wellsburg Middle School from local businessman Ed Hinebaugh, who operates Noah’s Ark Childcare and the Fulton Fun Factory with his wife. The Brooke County school board will review the bid during a meeting scheduled for 6 p. m. on Monday. The Hinebaughs expressed interest in collaborating with the community to identify potential uses for the building, focusing primarily on children's activities.
Beth noted the building's good condition and its advantageous location along the Ohio River. The former school, which ceased operations in 2018, has also served as a site for the Wellsburg Police Department and educational programs through the Brooke County Family Resource Center. During a prior auction, interest was low, making the current bid notable. Ed Hinebaugh suggested that an agreement could be reached to maintain the police department's presence at the location, pending the board's decision. The school district plans to work with the buyer to determine the future of the alternative learning center currently housed in the building.
