Student services link gives kids a voice
Harding Middle School has implemented a student services check-in link to assist students with mental health and academic challenges. The initiative, launched by social worker Shay Greiner and eighth-grader Quinn Handzus, offers access to support 24/7 through Google Classroom. Handzus's QR code connects students to the online link, which she developed as part of a 4-H project centered on mental health. Since its launch, over 80 students have utilized the service, which allows them to discreetly request help. Greiner expressed that the program caters to students who may feel shy or anxious, providing them with a private mechanism to reach out.
The collaboration between Greiner and Handzus merges their visions for supporting student needs. Greiner highlighted that the service addresses a range of concerns, from academic assistance to mental health issues. This initiative not only empowers students but also fosters a supportive school environment.
