Steubenville Council looks over resumes
Steubenville City Council reviewed 10 resumes for the city manager position, following Jim Mavromatis's announcement of his retirement in mid-March. Of the 12 resumes submitted, two were discarded for missing the application deadline. Councilman Joel Walker noted that two of the remaining candidates do not meet the required qualifications, leaving eight viable applicants. The council plans to send disclosure forms to these candidates to gauge their continued interest and authorize background checks. Walker stressed the importance of this step, recalling past hiring mistakes due to inadequate reference checks.
The application deadline was six weeks ago, which raises concerns about the current engagement of the qualified candidates. Walker aims to streamline the hiring process to avoid future complications. The council seeks to ensure a qualified successor is appointed in a timely manner.
