Upper Ohio Valley Museum in jeopardy
The Upper Ohio Valley Museum in East Liverpool is at risk of closing by December due to a severe financial crisis, with only $8,000 left to cover operational expenses. Director Michelle Roberts explained that the museum has relied on donations since it cannot charge admission. Annual fundraising events, which previously attracted 500 to 600 attendees, have ceased due to the declining health of a key organizer. The museum is now launching a grassroots effort, distributing envelopes for $20 donations from 1,000 community members to secure its future. Additionally, local artist Craig Wetzel has established a Venmo account to accept further donations.
If the fundraising goal is not met, the museum will convene its board of directors to decide on the next steps. Roberts expressed concern about the potential loss of a vital community resource that preserves local history. The museum's closure would be a setback for East Liverpool, which is on the brink of revitalization.
