Five members from the Disciples Women group at the First Christian Church in Weirton attended the Women's Retreat at North Bend State Park from September 5-7. The retreat, themed "Experiencing God," welcomed over 70 women from Disciples of Christ churches across West Virginia and featured Rev. Nadine Burton as the guest speaker. Attendees engaged in music, prayer, and scripture discussions while enjoying meals and fellowship in a serene forest environment. Focusing on Micah 6:8, the women emphasized justice, mercy, and humility in their discussions.

The group collected $1,000 for Facing Hunger, contributing to an impressive total of $5,111 donated to local food banks in the past year. Additional fundraising efforts included Blessing Box donations of $1,353 and a basket auction that raised $597. This retreat highlights the vital role of community support and the commitment of local churches to address hunger and poverty. Such initiatives reflect broader trends of faith-based organizations engaging in social issues.
