Memorial for late truck driver pitched to Wellsburg officials
Wellsburg Council is considering a memorial for Gerald “Jerry” Davis, who died after his runaway truck veered into the Ohio River on July 18. Joe Mullenbach, owner of Mullenbach Funeral Home, urged the council to honor Davis, emphasizing his efforts to avoid hitting people and property during the incident. A committee will be formed to determine the memorial's specifics, with Mullenbach volunteering to help. In addition to the memorial discussion, the council approved designating the Wellsburg Banquet Hall as the city’s single polling place for upcoming elections, pending legal counsel input. This move is expected to save costs associated with staffing multiple polling locations.
The council also discussed a requirement for the city manager to be a city resident, as the current manager plans to retire soon. Other council business included approving the use of public spaces for the upcoming Wellsburg Applefest and adjusting the timing of the city’s Christmas parade. The city will also host a community Halloween party with trick-or-treating hours set for October 31.
