Steubenville Council updated on water projects

Toronto, OHLocal News

Steubenville City Council received an update on water improvement projects that aim to enhance service and mitigate outages. A $16. 4 million initiative will create a new pump station and a 400,000-gallon water tank to improve water delivery. Customers in the West End have reported discoloration due to debris stirred up during testing of a new connection. Plans for a $22 million filtration plant upgrade are about 95 percent complete and require Ohio EPA approval before funding can be sought.

Councilman Dave Albaugh highlighted the positive impact of these improvements on water reliability. Jenkins noted that efforts are underway to construct an emergency water link with Wintersville, funded by a $650,000 OEPA grant. The city also intends to demolish an unused filtration plant while preserving its historical features. Jenkins aims to replace aging water lines, estimating it will take considerable time to address the city's 98 miles of infrastructure.
