Dollar store plan dropped, park pursuit continues

Toronto, OHLocal News

Dollar General has dropped plans to establish a new store in Steubenville's South End, disappointing officials who aimed to improve local access to essential goods. Mayor Jerry Barilla highlighted the community's need, especially for residents who rely on public transportation. While some residents preferred grocery stores over dollar stores, larger chains expressed disinterest in the less-populated area. In a positive development, City Council approved a $10,000 agreement with Unlimited Play to design a handicap-friendly playground for local youth. The playground will feature smooth surfaces and defined pathways to aid children with mobility challenges.

Unlimited Play has successfully raised funds for over 100 playgrounds across the U. S. , emphasizing their expertise. Council will oversee the playground's design and location, with Jim Wood Park as a potential site. This initiative aims to enhance recreational opportunities for all children in the community.
