Former hospital employees file petition

Toronto, OHLocal News

Former employees of East Ohio Regional Hospital filed an involuntary bankruptcy petition in the U. S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Ohio to secure unpaid wages and enhance financial transparency. Their attorney, Bob DeRose, stated that this step was crucial to ensure employees recover what they are owed, as unpaid wages take priority in bankruptcy proceedings. Following a hearing, the court appointed an interim trustee to oversee the hospital's assets, noting that current management was not fit for the role.

Hospital representatives had previously been warned about the petition but did not act to resolve wage claims before the deadline. This legal action specifically targets East Ohio Regional Hospital, while claims against related parties are still active in U. S. District Court. The appointment of an interim trustee aims to protect and preserve the hospital's assets during the bankruptcy process.

DeRose's firm, along with Gold, Khourey & Turak, is advocating for employees' rights in this case. The situation underscores the importance of workers' rights and financial accountability in healthcare institutions.
