Aim recipient of state grant
Aim Women’s Center in Steubenville has been selected to receive nearly $1 million in grants from the Ohio Parenting and Pregnancy Program, aimed at enhancing services for expectant parents. This funding is part of a broader $20 million initiative that benefits 21 organizations throughout Ohio. Executive Director Rebekah Cohen Morris described the grant as a significant blessing that will enable the center to expand services, including free ultrasounds, counseling, and housing assistance for pregnant women in need. Governor Mike DeWine noted that Ohio's infant mortality rate has reached its lowest point in two decades, indicating the effectiveness of investments in family support. Cohen Morris mentioned that the center previously operated on a $600,000 budget funded by local donors and foundations.
She emphasized the need for ongoing donations to ensure they can effectively utilize the grant funds. The center plans to develop a sustainability strategy to maximize their resources. Local officials, including Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel, reaffirmed the importance of supporting families during and after pregnancy.
