Portion of Route 27 to be paved
Brooke County commissioners confirmed that a section of state Route 27 will undergo paving, addressing public concerns about its deteriorating condition. State Del. Jimmy Willis announced that approximately 3. 9 miles will be paved, starting at the intersection with state Route 2. Additional paving is also scheduled for state Route 2 near Wellsburg.
Commission President A. J. Thomas pointed out that Route 27 had been slated for re-paving over five years ago, questioning delays in the process. Willis expressed optimism under the new state transportation administration, which he believes is more proactive about road maintenance. The commission plans to meet with state officials to address the funding formula for road repairs, which currently does not account for traffic volume.
In a related incident, a tractor trailer crash on Route 27 raised concerns about road safety, resulting in a fatality. Local officials are urging residents to report road conditions to the West Virginia Division of Highways.
