From Laurens Law to the law of the land

Michael and Cheri Cole are heading to Washington, D. C. , to witness President Trump sign the Halt All Lethal Trafficking of Fentanyl Act. This legislation, which imposes harsh penalties on traffickers of fentanyl, is significant in the fight against the opioid crisis that has claimed many lives, including that of their daughter, Lauren. Lauren died from a heroin overdose containing fentanyl, motivating her parents to establish Lauren’s Wish, a recovery center that has assisted nearly 1,000 patients with an impressive 88% success rate in maintaining their recovery.

Governor Patrick Morrisey's earlier signing of Lauren’s Law established a legal framework for punishing fentanyl dealers with sentences of up to 40 years. Michael Cole expressed that this national law is a culmination of their efforts to honor Lauren and support families affected by addiction. He emphasized the importance of community support, noting that patients often reach out to them, providing motivation during difficult times. The signing event symbolizes a significant step toward addressing the fentanyl epidemic and offers hope for recovery. Michael Cole believes Lauren would be proud to see these changes in action.
