Brooke commissioners discuss planning commission

Toronto, OHLocal News

Brooke County Commissioners revealed plans to re-establish a county planning commission during their weekly meeting. Commission President A. J. Thomas noted that the commission aims to address land use and zoning issues following the retraction of a controversial slaughterhouse proposal. The comprehensive plan, created in collaboration with West Virginia University and last updated in 2013, needs revision to specify areas designated for development.

Commissioner Stacey Wise stated that the updated plan would provide essential data for industries seeking grants. The commission intends to include local farmers to ensure diverse community representation. Additionally, the commissioners are waiting for a ruling from the 1st Judicial Circuit Court regarding a property cleanup on McCords Hill Road, which they acquired to remove bulky trash from small lots owned by multiple heirs. The effort has prompted questions about whether the property will need to be sold at public auction. The commissioners also recognized the Wellsburg 4th of July Committee for their successful Independence Day events.
