Toronto, OHLocal News

Fire Chief Carlo Capaldi will retire on July 17, capping off 33 years of service to the Steubenville Fire Department. Assistant Chief Robert Ribar will be sworn in as the new chief on July 16, with Capt. Seve Schaefer and Firefighter Robert Gaffney also advancing to new positions. Capaldi reflected on his career, stating he has no regrets and valued his time working with dedicated colleagues. During the City Council meeting, officials expressed concerns about the malfunctioning splash pad at Jim Wood Park, which currently has only two working features.

Council members criticized the lack of communication regarding the splash pad's condition, having learned about it through social media. City Manager Jim Mavromatis confirmed that they would bring repair quotes to the council, who are willing to allocate funds for the necessary maintenance. The malfunctioning facilities raise local concerns as residents seek recreational options, particularly during hot summer months. Capaldi's retirement marks a significant transition for the fire department, as the city navigates both leadership changes and public facility repairs.
