Cigar bars, ambulance station sale before Brooke Commission

Toronto, OHLocal News

The Brooke County Commission approved variances allowing smoking in two Weirton cigar lounges, subject to strict conditions. The health department's Mike Bolen stated that individuals under 21 cannot enter the lounges, and warning signs about secondhand smoke must be posted. The commission also accepted a $65,000 bid from Jesse Casto for the former ambulance station at Marshall Terrace, which has been closed since a larger facility opened. Commissioner Stacey Wise confirmed that the old station will be used for storage. Local fire departments have been providing support for flood recovery efforts in Ohio County.

Bolen's staff has extended office hours to assist with vaccinations for first responders. The variances granted by the health board are not transferable and may be revoked if conditions are not met. This decision reflects ongoing efforts to balance public health concerns with business interests in the community.
