BayouLand Conservancy has completed a $62,000 fundraising campaign to protect Cindy’s Redbud Nature Preserve, vital for preserving Texas tall grass prairie. This 176-acre property, located south of Montgomery, is home to rare species like the Texas windmill grass and crested caracara. The first 88 acres are permanently protected under a conservation easement, with plans to expand this protection. A celebration on April 26, 2025, brought together donors and conservationists to honor this achievement. Justin Hicks, BLC’s Board Chair, stressed the necessity of conserving natural spaces amid Houston's growth.

The preserve contributes to clean water by filtering runoff and reducing flooding risks. Restoration efforts will involve prescribed burns and invasive species removal, in collaboration with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. The community’s commitment ensures this rare landscape benefits wildlife and residents for generations.
