CenterPoint Energy reminds customers, contractors and community members to dial 811 before digging or starting outdoor projects

The Woodlands, TXLocal News

CenterPoint Energy stresses the need to contact 811 before starting outdoor digging projects to safeguard against accidents involving underground utility lines. In 2024, the company recorded more than 3,100 incidents of natural gas line damages resulting from a failure to contact 811. Al Payton, Vice President of Safety and Technical Training, stated that knowing the location of utilities is crucial for community safety as warmer temperatures lead to increased outdoor activities. Digging without prior consultation can result in severe injuries, service interruptions, and significant repair costs. State laws require adherence to safe digging practices, and utility lines can be buried just inches below the surface.

CenterPoint encourages residents to plan ahead and adjust their projects if necessary. The utility provider also reminds individuals to leave repairs to trained technicians if a gas line is struck. For further details, visit 811BeforeYouDig. com and CenterPointEnergy. com/Safety.
