Critical funding cuts jeopardize home-delivered meals transportation for homebound seniors veterans in Montgomery County

The Woodlands, TXLocal News

Meals on Wheels Montgomery County (MOWMC) announced significant funding cuts that will freeze new client enrollments and reduce essential services for seniors and veterans. President & CEO Carrie Watkins highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating that the health and safety of vulnerable clients are at risk. Currently, approximately 200 seniors are on a waitlist, a number expected to grow as funding declines and SNAP benefits run out. Effective November 3, 2025, MOWMC will decrease meal deliveries from seven to five per week and cut monthly transportation rides by 500. To address this funding shortfall, MOWMC plans to introduce a pilot meal-purchase program in November 2025.

The organization is actively reevaluating client needs based on urgency and risk to prioritize those most in need. Watkins urged the community to rally for support, emphasizing that seniors do not have the luxury of time. MOWMC remains dedicated to its mission of serving seniors and veterans despite these unprecedented challenges.
