An explosion occurred at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Crime Laboratory around 9:00 a. m. during a routine evidence destruction operation for the Galveston Police Department. Staff heard an explosion after loading evidence into the incinerator, resulting in multiple secondary blasts and a brief fire that was extinguished by on-site personnel. The Conroe Fire Department and their Haz-Mat Unit responded to the scene, ensuring the safety of staff and the surrounding area.

Multiple employees received treatment for smoke inhalation, with one taken to a local hospital but expected to recover fully. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the post-blast investigation, collaborating with the Conroe Fire Department and the ATF. The crime laboratory and nearby structures sustained no significant damage. Local agencies provided crucial support during the incident, highlighting community collaboration in emergency responses.
