Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon announced his immediate resignation today, reflecting on the honor of serving the community. In his resignation letters, he emphasized the rewarding nature of his role, which allowed him to make a significant difference in people's lives. First Assistant District Attorney Mike Holley has applied to succeed him, ensuring continuity in leadership. According to the Texas Constitution, Ligon will remain in office until Governor Abbott appoints a successor. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office expressed gratitude for Ligon’s 17 years of dedicated service.

Chief of Communications Laura Smith extended best wishes to Ligon for his future endeavors. In a separate announcement, Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson reminded voters that the deadline to register for the November 4 Election is October 6. Voters will decide on 17 proposed amendments to the state constitution, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement.
