CenterPoint Energy celebrated National Dog Day with its gas leak-detecting K9 team
CenterPoint Energy celebrated National Dog Day by highlighting its K9 team, which specializes in detecting natural gas leaks. The dogs—Holly, Sunday, and Gunner—detect approximately 60 leaks weekly, playing a vital role in ensuring community safety across the Greater Houston area. Richard Leger, Senior Vice President of Natural Gas Business, stated that the K9 team's innovative approach enhances leak detection speed and accuracy. Each dog brings over ten years of experience, allowing for efficient assistance in identifying potential leaks at an average of 20 homes daily. Damien Pamplin, the dogs' trainer, described them as lifesavers due to their ability to detect even the smallest traces of natural gas.
The K9 team is trained to recognize methane, the main component of natural gas, and operates across a service area covering 12 counties. CenterPoint urges residents to evacuate and call for help if they detect natural gas. For more information, they recommend visiting 811BeforeYouDig. com.
