Suspect arrested in Charleston Lane Wedding Venue Theft Case

Carl John Butcho II was arrested on August 14, 2025, by detectives from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for theft related to fraudulent activities at the Charleston Lane Wedding Venue. He faces a second-degree felony charge for theft of property valued between $150,000 and $300,000. Investigators found that Butcho, using the alias "Lance Miller," defrauded twelve victims who paid for non-existent weddings, leading to losses of $202,424. 90. Additionally, five victims who did have weddings reported not receiving promised refunds, totaling $11,450 in losses.

Butcho's bond was set at $100,000, with specific conditions imposed before his release. Sheriff Wesley Doolittle praised the investigators' dedication and the collaboration between law enforcement agencies. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office remains focused on delivering justice and urges any individuals with relevant information to contact them. This case underscores the vulnerability of victims who trust service providers for significant life events.
