CenterPoint Energy is monitoring a tropical disturbance in the Northeast Gulf and ready to activate its summer storm readiness plan, if needed

The Woodlands, TXLocal News

CenterPoint Energy is preparing for a tropical disturbance that may impact the Texas Coast by the end of the week. The company’s meteorology team is actively monitoring the situation and ready to implement their summer storm readiness plan if necessary. This plan includes mobilizing vegetation management workers to clear hazardous vegetation and coordinating with local officials for timely updates. CenterPoint will also conduct outreach to critical care customers and secure additional call center staff to manage increased call volumes. Matt Lanza, the meteorology manager, indicated a low likelihood of severe weather but stressed the need for community awareness.

Following Hurricane Beryl last summer, CenterPoint executed a series of resiliency improvements, including installing over 26,000 stronger poles and undergrounding more than 400 miles of power lines. Additionally, the company has installed over 100 weather stations to enhance storm preparedness. These efforts aim to reduce outages and improve restoration times during storm events.
