The Woodlands Township officials support new law HB 2012 for public safety and community standards

The Woodlands, TXLocal News

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 2012 into law on June 21, 2025, empowering large counties to regulate roadside vendors and solicitors. Officials in Montgomery County welcomed the legislation, noting that the increase in unregulated activities poses safety risks for both vendors and the public. Township Director Cindy Heiser explained that the law provides necessary authority to manage these challenges effectively. Previously, only counties with populations exceeding 1. 3 million had such regulatory powers.

The law extends this authority to counties with populations over 600,000 adjacent to those with over 4 million. The Montgomery County Commissioners Court expressed a desire for these regulations through a resolution in August 2024. Additionally, the Township Board established a Homelessness Task Force to address issues related to roadside solicitation. HB 2012 will take effect on September 1, 2025, enhancing community standards and public safety.
