New metering lights system to be installed along Hwy 101 from Peninsula to South Bay, Caltrans says

Sunnyvale, CALocal News

Caltrans will implement a new metering lights system along Highway 101 to alleviate traffic from Brisbane to Gilroy. The first section is set to launch next month, with work expected to be completed by October. This system will replace the current setup, which only functions during preset weekday peak hours. The new metering lights will adjust rates based on real-time traffic conditions, significantly improving flow. Installation of the first set of meters will take place from Sunnyvale to Redwood City on April 8.

This initiative is part of California's ongoing efforts to enhance traffic management and reduce congestion. Commuters in the South Bay and Peninsula have expressed concerns over traffic delays, making this project particularly relevant. The adaptation to real-time conditions aims to improve the daily commute and support cleaner air initiatives.
