Mountain View weighs options for a higher-density Moffett Boulevard
Mountain View is actively working on plans to redevelop Moffett Boulevard, aiming to boost both housing and commercial activities along the corridor. The Environmental Planning Commission recently deliberated on three different land use options, ultimately favoring a blended approach to housing density. These options vary in building heights and residential density, ranging from four to seven stories and allowing between 75 to 100 residential units per acre. A significant consideration is the preservation of existing businesses, with commissioners voicing differing opinions on the necessity of ground-floor commercial requirements. Commissioner Alex Nuñez highlighted the need for a combination of density and ground floor uses to enhance community vitality.
Meanwhile, other commissioners underscored the importance of keeping retail sites clustered to support economic viability. The proposals will be reviewed by the City Council, which will decide the future of Moffett Boulevard’s development. Overall, the planning commission aims to balance growth with the retention of local businesses.
