Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

On June 18, 2025, a brush fire sparked in Spokane's Latah Valley, quickly drawing the attention of local firefighters. Battalion 1, engaged in mutual aid for another wildfire, spotted a significant smoke column and requested a wildland response. Crews arrived within ten minutes and contained the fire, which was less than an acre in size, in the 2900 block of West Thorpe Road. Firefighters received support from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Spokane County Fire District 10. The suspicious nature of the fire prompted an investigation, with authorities seeking information on a dark-colored Ford Ranger that left the scene shortly after the fire was reported.
