Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

A suspicious brush fire in Latah Valley was contained by firefighters on June 18, 2025, after being reported around 3:45 p. m. Battalion 1 observed a smoke column while assisting with another wildfire and promptly requested a wildland response. Crews arrived within ten minutes and discovered a grass and brush fire burning under an acre in a timbered area. Thanks to the prompt and coordinated actions of the Spokane Fire Department and supporting agencies, the fire was contained, and mopping up began shortly after.

Investigators are currently looking into the cause of the fire, which is deemed suspicious. They are particularly interested in a dark-colored Ford Ranger that was seen leaving the area shortly after the fire was reported. This incident highlights the ongoing threat of wildfires in the region, necessitating swift response and community vigilance.
