Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

A suspicious brush fire ignited in Spokane's Latah Valley on June 18, 2025, prompting a rapid response from local firefighters. At 3:45 p. m. , a Battalion Chief, while assisting with another wildfire, noticed a prominent smoke column and requested additional resources. Fire crews arrived at the 2900 block of West Thorpe Road, where they found a grass and brush fire under an acre in size.

Thanks to the prompt action from Spokane Fire Department and support from state and county resources, the fire was contained within an hour. Investigators are examining the cause, which is considered suspicious, and are looking for information regarding a dark-colored Ford Ranger that was seen leaving the scene shortly after the fire started.
