Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

Spokane firefighters contained a suspicious brush fire in Latah Valley on June 18, 2025, after spotting a smoke column rising in the area. The fire, located in the 2900 block of West Thorpe Road, burned under an acre in a timbered region. Firefighters from the Spokane Fire Department, supported by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Spokane County Fire District 10, engaged the fire within ten minutes of arrival. They contained the blaze and began mop-up operations just over an hour later. Investigators are currently probing the fire's cause and consider it suspicious.
