Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

Firefighters contained a suspicious brush fire in Spokane's Latah Valley on June 18, 2025, shortly after it was detected. Battalion 1 observed a smoke column while assisting with another wildfire and immediately requested a wildland response. Crews arrived within ten minutes to find the fire burning under an acre in a timbered area on West Thorpe Road. Thanks to a coordinated effort with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Spokane County Fire District 10, the fire was contained, and mop-up operations began an hour later. Investigators are currently probing the fire's cause, labeling it suspicious, and are seeking information about a dark-colored Ford Ranger seen leaving the area shortly after the incident.
