Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

Firefighters contained a suspicious brush fire in Spokane's Latah Valley on June 18, 2025, after responding to a smoke column reported by Battalion 1 while providing mutual aid for another wildfire. The fire was located in the 2900 block of West Thorpe Road and burned under an acre in a timbered area. Firefighters from the Spokane Fire Department, along with resources from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Spokane County Fire District 10, quickly worked to engage the fire. They successfully contained it and began mopping up hot spots just over an hour after arrival. The cause of the fire is under investigation and currently deemed suspicious, prompting investigators to seek information about a dark-colored Ford Ranger seen leaving the area shortly after the fire was reported.
