Within ten minutes, crews discovered a grass and brush fire burning under an acre in a timbered area. The coordinated efforts of the Spokane Fire Department, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and Spokane County Fire District 10 resulted in the fire's containment, with hot spots being addressed shortly thereafter. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and officials consider it suspicious.

Investigators are particularly interested in a dark-colored Ford Ranger with noticeable items in its bed, which was seen leaving the area soon after the fire started.
